Damien, the owner of the apartment where Cayce Pollard wakes up, is based on real-life video director Chris Cunningham. His popular music videos include the ones for Madonna's "Frozen" and for Björk's "All Is Full of Love" (additional info here):

And just like that, the female robot props mentioned several times in Chapter 1 finally make sense.
